Ganon Face Punch as I Ride My Flying Duck to Victory!

This run through of Legend of Zelda: a Link to the Past took me roughly a month to get through. My play sessions were limited and I found myself going days between sessions. I also spent a good deal of time watching record holding speed runners work their magic and researching methods for making the magic happen on my own. That being said, I'm pretty pumped to get into actual speed running trials of my own.

I've snagged a copy of the Japanese version of the ROM
(Zelda no Densetsu: Kamigami no Triforce v1.0) so I can get at this proper. There are a few tricks I have yet to learn to be in any basic form to even attempt anything resembling a true speed run (such as "fake flippers" (video cred: jck169 via youtube)). I will periodically post on any new finds and speed running progress as I improve. I spent half of my lunch break a few days ago doing a light world run. I'm still relying on save states so I can practice trouble areas repeatedly. That being said, with multiple retries on quite a trouble few spots, I made it to the "fake flippers" trick in under 30 minutes. I was relatively pleased with this, it's a decent start!

The first image in the post is a montage of screen caps from the epic finale of my quest. There are some time saves in the Tower of Ganon and most of them come down to skill and just moving quickly. The one big exploit I found most useful was in the big invisible bridge room. You dash into a skull that bounces you onto the final segment of the invisible bridge maze allowing you to skip the entire mess. A big frustration saver for the final Ganon fight involves lighting the left torch as soon is it burns out after Ganon finishes jumping around making the floor collapse. If you light it immediately as it goes out, the right torch will NEVER go out leaving you with just one torch timer to manager versus two. This glitch is kind of a big deal.

There are a few other time saves, but I either didn't know of them or was unable to do them. Nothing epic, but I will share any new finds as I begin running Zelda no Denetsu.
